What do you think the core of the motive force of players’ and team’s growth is?

選手の成長や、チームの成長の原動力となる核心とは何だと思いますか？

I think we have a special group of guys.  It is my job to have the vision, but the reason why we have achieved our goals of getting better and have had success on the court thus far is the character of our team.  Our franchise players who lead the way – Anthony Mchenry and Wayne Marshall, are absolutely special, they have unbelievable character.  I’m so fortunate to get to work with these guys.  On top of that we have had a great group of Japanese players over the last couple years and I could go down the list naming each guy.  They have bought in to what we are trying to accomplish as a team.  They are coachable, and they always respond to being challenged, and that has led to our improvement.  I don’t think we would have the same improvement without those qualities as people.  That’s why I say the reason we have achieved our goals of improving and having success on the court is the character of each individual player and our staff as well.

信州は特別な人たちが揃っていると私は思っています。ビジョンを持つということが私の任務ですが、なぜ私たちが“成長する”という目標を達成し、ここまでコート上で成功を収め続けているかといえば、その理由は、我々チームの人間性によるところだと思います。
チームのために道を切り拓いてくれたフランチャイズ・プレイヤーであるアンソニー・マクヘンリーとウェイン・マーシャルは実に特別で、信じられないような人間性を備えていると思います。彼らと一緒に仕事ができることを本当に幸運に思います。それに加え、ここ２、３年は素晴らしい日本人選手たちにも恵まれています。彼らは我々がチームとして成し遂げようとしていることをもたらしてくれ、指導に対して素直に耳を傾け、彼らをプッシュしたり、チャレンジしたことに必ず応えてくれます。そういったことが私たちの成長につながっています。こういった人間性がなければ、同じような成長はなかったと思います。そういうわけで私たちが成長という目標を達成し、この2年間、コートでの成功を収めてきた理由は、選手とスタッフの“人間性”だと思っています。
